Fri 2nd May

Departing the local area in the morning with comfort stops enroute, we begin our travels to Newbury. You will have free time in the beautiful market town of Stratford-upon-Avon before journeying onwards to the hotel. Our estimated time of arrival at ORIDA Hotels Newbury (used to be DoubleTree by Hilton) is 5:30PM, you will then have time to get settled in and enjoy the facilities before dinner commences.

Sat 3rd May

After breakfast, at 9:30AM, we depart the hotel for the journey to Highclere Castle for a 10AM entry to the much-loved fictional home of Downton Abbey. Set in a stunning park designed by Capability Brown in the eighteenth century, Highclere Castle has been transformed from its roots in Anglo Saxon Times to a medieval palace, a Tudor place house, a Georgian house and today this iconic Victorian Castle. Your ticket includes entry the Castle and Gardens. There are no guided tours of the Castle, with Highclere opting to operate free-flow system with the guides in the rooms to answer questions. We will remain here for the recommended 4 hours. At 2PM, we will continue into the Georgian town of Newbury for free time. At 5PM, the coach will then return to to the hotel in time for dinner.

At 9:30AM, we check out of the hotel after breakfast. Then travel to the village of Bampton, doubling as the fictional Yorkshire village of Downton, this charming village will seem very familiar to Downton Abbey fans. We venture to Blenheim Palace for a 1PM entry self-guided tour of the Palace, Park and Gardens before rejoining the coach at 4.30PM for the journey back to Cumbria.

Meal times

Breakfast is served from 7AM until 10:30AM. Dinner is served from 6PM until 9:30PM
