Ampleforth Abbey

Ampleforth Abbey

Join Reays at Ampleforth Abbey

Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a community of Benedictine monks since 1802, living according to the Gospel and the Rule of St Benedict.

Set in 1,200 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, the Abbey is a working monastery and a place where all are welcome.

You’re free to visit, whether you’d like to walk or cycle through the valley, step inside the Abbey Church for a service, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.

For more than 200 years, we have been growing apples at Ampleforth Abbey

Today, with more than 1,500 trees and ‘over 5 acres, the Ampleforth Abbey Orchard is one of the largest commercial orchards in the North of England.

A succession of more than 50 varieties of apple ripen naturally between August and January in our traditionally managed orchards. Our full juice cider is crafted from a blend of dessert and culinary apples, pressed in our own Cider Mill where it is fermented and matured for eight months.

Please be mindful of the even terrain and remember that this is a working orchard.
