A Reays coach holiday through Derbyshire and the Peak District combines historic attractions, beautiful countryside and traditional English towns, with visits to Chatsworth House, one of England’s finest stately homes with magnificent gardens and art collections, and Bolsover Castle, a striking hilltop castle rich in medieval and 17th-century history.

 

 The tour also includes time in the charming market town of Bakewell, famous for its traditional pudding and riverside setting, along with a visit to Matlock Bath, where you can enjoy the spectacular cable car ride at Heights of Abraham and panoramic views across the Derwent Valley. Additional highlights include the elegant spa town of Buxton, known for its Georgian architecture and Pavilion Gardens, and the picturesque village of Castleton, surrounded by dramatic Peak District scenery, historic walking routes, making this an ideal holiday for those who enjoy heritage, scenic landscapes and relaxing guided travel.

Mon 2nd Aug 27

Morning departure from the local area, as we journey towards Bakewell for a relaxed afternoon where you can browse the lively weekly market filled with local produce, crafts, and treats, then make sure to sample the iconic Bakewell Pudding at the famous The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop before enjoying a peaceful stroll along the scenic River Wye, taking in the charming views and perhaps stopping by All Saints' Church as you wander through the town’s picturesque streets. Later we will head towards our hotel leaving plenty of time to relax before our eving meal.

Tue 3rd Aug 27

After breakfast, we will head to Chatsworth House to explore its grand interiors and stunning gardens, or simply relax and enjoy the cafés and shops, afterwards, continue on to Matlock where you can experience the cable cars at the Heights of Abraham and then enjoy some free time to explore the area at your leisure, before later heading back to your hotel to relax and enjoy your evening meal.

Wed 4th Aug 27

This morning after breakfast, we travel to Bolsover Castle to explore its striking architecture and rich history; a 17th-century hilltop retreat built by Sir Charles Cavendish and developed by William Cavendish, it is best known for the richly decorated "Little Castle", elegant terraces, and gardens, and is now managed by English Heritage offering superb views and a glimpse into aristocratic life. Later, we continue to Chesterfield, famous for its iconic Crooked Spire, where you will have some free time to explore the town’s shops and cafés before returning to your hotel for your evening meal.

Thurs 5th Aug 27

After breakfast this morning, we set off for the charming spa town of Buxton, nestled in the heart of the Peak District. On arrival, you’ll have some free time to explore at your own pace. You might choose to take a leisurely stroll through the beautifully maintained Pavilion Gardens, where elegant pathways wind through colourful flowerbeds, tranquil ponds, and a striking Victorian conservatory. The town itself is known for its graceful Georgian architecture, and you may wish to admire landmarks such as the Buxton Opera House or simply relax with a coffee and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Later, we continue our journey through the stunning landscapes of the Peak District to the picturesque village of Castleton. Here, we’ll pause briefly to take in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds the village, with rolling hills and dramatic ridgelines creating one of the region’s most iconic views. Look out for Mam Tor, often referred to as the “Shivering Mountain,” as well as the historic ruins of Peveril Castle, which overlook the village from above.

After enjoying this scenic stop and capturing a few memorable photos, we make our way back to the hotel, where you can unwind and look forward to your evening meal.

.After breakfast, we bid farewell to our hosts and begin our journey back to Cumbria. Along the way, we make a pleasant stop at the World of Wedgwood, where you’ll have time to explore this renowned destination dedicated to fine British craftsmanship. Here, you can browse an impressive selection of high-quality ceramics in the factory shop, from timeless classics to contemporary designs, or simply relax with a coffee in the café and enjoy the surroundings.

Following our visit, we continue our return journey to Cumbria, bringing the tour to a relaxed and enjoyable close.

The reception is located immediately inside the front doors on the ground floor with no steps. There are 3 lifts’ available to all floors from the reception.  A fully accessible room has no bath in the bathroom but there is a wet room shower, with a seat attached to the wall.

All bathrooms are equipped with grab rails and there is flat access from the bedrooms to

the en suite.
