Departing from the local area this morning, we begin a Scenic Journey North to the Abbotsford house & gardens. Exploring the Home of a Literary Legend.
Upon arriving at Abbotsford, most visitors begin by touring the house itself. Carefully restored and preserved, it appears much as it did during Sir Walter Scott’s lifetime. Its rooms are filled with intriguing artefacts and curiosities, while minimal labelling helps maintain an authentic, immersive atmosphere. Gardens of Romance and Beauty. After exploring the house, visitors can stroll through Abbotsford’s gardens, one of the highlights of any visit. The grounds are a true masterpiece, brimming with romance and natural beauty. Afterwards we head to our hotel with plenty of time to relax before the evening meal.

After breakfast, we travel to Scott's View, one of Scotland’s most breathtaking panoramic viewpoints, offering sweeping scenery over the surrounding countryside. We then continue to Melrose Abbey, where we explore its iconic Gothic ruins and uncover its rich medieval history. Just across from the abbey car park, we also visit Priorwood Garden, a charming walled garden known for its seasonal flowers and traditional horticultural displays. Later, enjoy some free time in Melrose, where you can relax, browse local shops, or enjoy refreshments at your leisure before returning to the hotel for your evening meal later in the evening.

Tues 1st June 27

After breakfast, we depart for Alnwick Castle to spend the morning exploring this historic site, famously featured in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Downton Abbey, with time to enjoy its state rooms, exhibitions, and grounds. Continue your visit at Alnwick Garden, where you can wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens and visit highlights such as the Grand Cascade and the Poison Garden. At lunchtime, choose to dine at one of the castle or garden cafés or take a short walk into Alnwick town centre for a wider selection of cafés and pubs, followed by some free time to explore at your own pace. and return to your hotel for your evening meal.

Wed 2nd June 27

After breakfast, the day will be split into two halves, beginning with a visit to Berwick-upon-Tweed, where you can spend time exploring this historic border town, known for its Elizabethan walls, scenic river views, and charming streets. Later, continue on to Seahouses, a picturesque seaside village on the Northumberland coast, where you can enjoy time at leisure, perhaps strolling along the harbour, taking in the coastal views, or relaxing with refreshments before heading back to the hotel for our evening meal.

Thurs 3rd June 27

Saying farewell to your hosts after breakfast, you will begin the day with a visit to Bamburgh Castle, where you can spend the morning exploring this dramatic coastal fortress, rich in history and offering great views over the Northumberland coastline. You will also have time to enjoy the village of Bamburgh, with its charming setting, beach, and local cafés, making for a relaxed and scenic start to the day, leaving plenty of time for lunch before setting back on our journey home.
